BUCCINO, R. A., E. HARRIS, J. F. SPANN, JR., AND E. H. SONNENBLICK. Response of myocardial connective tissue to development of experimental hypertrophy.. Am. J. Physiol. 2 16(2) : 425-428. 1969.-Myocardial collagen concentration was determined by measuring hydroxyproline in right and left ventricles of normal. cats and those with right ventricular hypertrophy produced by chronic constriction of the pulmonary artery. Both in normal and hypertrophied ventricles, hydroxyproline concentration was significantly higher in the epimyocardium than in endomyocardium; and in both the epimyocardium and endomyocardium, hydroxyproline was significantly higher in right ventricular than in corresponding left ventricular specimens. In the presence of right ventricular hypertrophy, the concentration, as well as the total content of hydroxyproline, increased in both the right and the unstressed left ventricle.

Expressions of CD11a, CD11b, and CD11c integrin proteins in rats with myocardial hypertrophy
Objective(s):To examine the expressions of CD11a, CD11b, and CD11c integrins in the myocardial tissues of rats with isoproterenol-induced myocardial hypertrophy. This study also provided morphological data to investigate the signal transduction mechanisms of myocardial hypertrophy and reverse it. Materials and Methods: A myocardial hypertrophy model was established by subcutaneously injecting i...
متن کاملThe Effect of Aerobic Training on expression of some indices of myocardial hypertrophy and atrophy in rats
Background: Protein synthesis and degradation are dynamically regulated processes that to control the accretion or loss of muscle mass. However, the mechanisms responsible exercise-induced heart hypertrophy remains elusive. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic training on expression of some indices of myocardial hypertrophy and atrophy in male rats. Materials and Meth...
متن کاملRole of oxidative stress in the aortic constriction-induced ventricular hypertrophy in rat
Introduction:Severe abdominal aortic constriction above the renal arteries induces arterial hypertension above the stenotic site that is the cause of cardiac hypertrophy. Previous studies have shown that high blood pressure induces myocardial oxidative stress with conflicting results. In the present study, we assessed the effects of acute hypertension on the myocardial oxidative stress an...
متن کاملMyocardial necrosis, fibrosis, and DNA synthesis in experimental cardiac hypertrophy induced by sudden pressure overload.
The development of myocardial fibrosis as a result of cardiac hypertrophy was studied in 11 cats in which the pulmonary artery was banded, six rabbits in which the ascending aorta was banded, and eight cats with various congenital cardiac anomalies. Histological examination of the myocardium revealed multifocal areas of degeneration and necrosis with healing by fibrosis in the right ventricle o...
متن کاملFibrogenesis: Mechanisms, Dynamics and Clinical Implications
Fibrosis is the pathological condition resulting in the growth of excess fibrous connective tissue in an organ or body system as a reparative or reactive process. In the field of clinical pathology, clinicians and medical scientists are endeavoring to translate experimental knowledge into effective, innovative treatments for a range of fibrotic conditions. The amelioration of whole organ functi...
